College Advising

This group course, designed by College Advising at American Heritage Schools, will provide students with various tools and resources to assist them in their journey through the college admissions process.

It will include a variety of modules, including but not limited to Exploring goals, The College Search, Resume Building, Testing, College Application Essays, Letters of Recommendation, Financial Aid and Scholarships, for students to explore and work on as they get ready to complete their college applications.

Getting Ready: The College List

Setting goals prepares students to explore careers and college majors which is the preliminary step to searching for colleges. Learning about the different types of colleges and universities, they will conduct a college search specific to their needs to create their college list.  

The College Application

Students will work on creating a college bound resume, learn the importance of letters of recommendation and how to select recommenders and request letters. They will be introduced to the various application options, and the college application essays, their role in admissions and tips on creating dynamic essays.  

Testing Options and Paying for College

Students will become knowledgeable of testing submission options, superscoring and score choice requirements of colleges and universities. They will learn about types of funding for college such as scholarships, grants, financial aid and loans, and information about their options for financial aid.
